Join my Team and support D4D at the Walk for the Dogs!
Celeste and I, with my family and friends, will be walking to support D4D’s program to provide dogs to other people with diabetes! Read my story of recieving Celeste to help me with my diabetes.
Help us contribute to this great program, Thanks!!!!
It took many dogs for me, and many people for Celeste, for us to finally find each other, but all the struggle, patience and hard work was definitely worth it.
Celeste is a rigorous night alerter and has saved me from some bad situations many times. She actually detects my dropping or low blood sugar while I am sleeping. She gets out of her bed and goes into my parents’ room and jumps up on their bed to wake them up so they can check me and treat me to get my blood sugar back up to safer levels. Of course, Celeste gets her treat too, turkey jerky! Her ability and willingness to work even throughout the night give my parents and me peace of mind. Especially because I will be leaving for college in just 3 years, and I am a very sound sleeper!
Celeste even alerted me once during my baseball game when I was on the field, catching, and she was sitting in the stands with my mom. She started whining and alerting, by picking up her bringsel, and would not leave my mom alone. So after I came off the field, my mom told me to test just to see if I was low. Because I felt perfectly fine, I never would have tested myself at that particular time, but, because of Celeste’s alert, I did, and I was low! Had I gone back on to the field in the next inning without testing and treating my low blood sugar, I would have put myself in a dangerous situation.
Celeste is a great dog and my best friend. She makes navigating my diabetes easier and not so lonely. I feel more independent and safer doing things on my own. I love Celeste with all my heart and will do anything for her and she will do anything for me. I thank D4D so much for this amazing gift.
