Dogs
for Diabetics, Inc. (D4D) has enjoyed the support of Guide
Dogs for the Blind (GDB) since founder Mark Ruefenacht's
initial discovery of the potential that dogs had to help
people with diabetes. GDB provided a dog named Armstrong to initially test the concept that a dog could be trained
to identify the onset of hypoglycemia.
Since D4D's establishment in 2004, GDB's donated dogs have been the primary source of trainees for D4D's clients. They have encouraged D4D's development in many ways and have been the model of a quality non-profit to which D4D aspires to become. GDB has a strong affinity for the work of D4D, as many of their clients suffer from diabetes, the leading cause of blindness in the United States. Their interest and support now provides a means to help people through the loving support of their donated dogs which were bred and raised for service work, but were not able to fulfill their goal of becoming a working guide for the blind. These dogs are phenomenal in their skills and capabilities and now work to help people avoid the debilitating complications that can ensue from diabetes.
Your support for Guide Dogs for the Blind and for Dogs4Diabetics will directly help people who suffer from the severe complications of diabetes. Visit www.guidedogs.com.

Nylabone, a division of Central Garden and Pet, sponsors the Concord Nylabone Training Center of Dogs4Diabetics, Inc. (D4D). They have been a program supporter since D4D's initial incorporation, funding the costs of maintaining a training site since D4D began training dogs and clients. The AvoDerm Division provides food products for dogs during their training. Nylabone provides the toys of choice. D4D's dogs in training enjoy these toys at the training center as well as in their foster homes. The Four Paws Division helps provide foster families and clients with appropriate collars, crates, and other supplies that are needed to properly outfit dogs in training and as they are initially placed with clients. The generous nature of their support continues to expand with a new, major commitment that will help Dogs4Diabetics expand client and team training. D4D appreciates the continuing strong support provided by this fine company and its several brands. See www.central.com.
